Bertolt Brecht: Epic Theatre

The Caucasian Chalk Circle: Summary, characters, etc

Studying Bertolt Brecht - A great site with explanations and examples of  many of his techniques

Video Documentation

After watching your taped performance, you should make a journal entry that addresses the following:
1. What stuck with you? What are you going to remember about this theatre style?
2. List THREE activities we did in class. How did the connect to this theatre style?

3. Describe the difference between the theatre of Stanislavsky/Naturalism and Epic theatre?

Your final performance was an adaptation of something familiar and Epic theatre techniques (which was fantastic!). Discuss with your fellow DP Theatre students how you could have created more of a traditional Epic theatre piece. Perhaps researching Brecht's productions may make this discussion easier. Make notes from your discussion.

How was Brecht and Epic Theatre influenced by other theatre practices?

Take a minute to watch your video and analyze your presentation. How did you do? What would you do different next time? What are you proud of?
